A good rule of thumb: art hung above a sofa or bed looks best at roughly ⅔ the width of the furniture below it.
Framed pieces use a solid pine moulding 10–14 mm wide (0.4–0.6″) and 20–25 mm thick (0.79–0.98″), so the frame sits close to the wall — under an inch of projection.
